Public Record

The internet is an amazing thing. It allows PUBLIC information to be PUBLIC.

Here is the NTSB Probable Cause Synposis on the plane crash.
" The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident to be:
The failure of both pilots to abort the takeoff when a suitable climb rate could not be attained. Contributing to the accident was the reduction of available power due to the camshaft lobe and lifter corrosion/wear, the high density altitude, and the CFI’s inadequate supervision."

Here is the NTSB Factual Report.

Here is the NTSB Brief of Accident.

  2. Okay, but whatever happened with that lawsuit against St. Johns? I'm sure THAT must be in the public record somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it.

  3. Did the Nielson family sue and get an insurance settlement or were they wealthy before the crash ... and if so (the latter) why are they accepting many thousands in donations (charity)?

  4. I'm sorry, you probably don't use this blog anymore, but I just stumbled on it, and did little digging of my own, and--they sued the county where they crashed? WTF? And a friend told me she charges $17,000 per hour for speaking engagements because his company tried to hire here? Wow, do you know any more about this crazy lawsuit?

    1. Kristy, I will have to do more research on this. Contrary to many comments I receive, I actually do have a job.

    2. I work in the speaking industry as an agent. It isn't uncommon for someone to get thousands of dollars to speak. In fact, Stephanie's fee is on the very low end of things - my company wouldn't even represent her because her fee isn't high enough. philanthropists like Jarrod Diamond get over $100,000 an hour to speak - he certainly doesn't turn around and give all of this money back to a charity. He keeps it! What about billionaires who certainly don't need more money - Bill Gates, for example? $250,000 per hour for a speaking engagement, not including the cost of his travel. He could solve world hunger, yet collects this money and no one bats an eye. Other authors, like Salmon Rushdie, get $75,000 an hour to speak. Stephanie qualifies - she's an author, she has a story, and people will pay to hear her speak. She hasn't increased her speaking fee so people can't afford it, even though the market would allow for such an increase. There are a lot more people boasting to be humanitarians who are making A LOT more money from speaking engagements and donate NOTHING. Maybe worry about them...

  5. They sued our poor little town, but it has all been hush hush. They sued the town of St. Johns and the electric company because they hit a wire while crashing into the street.

  6. Anonymous, were you home the day this happened? I know they built a huge new house recently. I would not wish what happened to them on anyone but wonder how they are paying millions of dollars in medical bills, build a new house and none of the adults are working. I haven't heard any updates on their lawsuits???
